Beautifying my World

If you’ve ever visited my home, you know how much I value color. (See photos of the inside of my home). My builder seemed to prefer off-white for the walls, and I knew myself well enough to know that I would quickly go crazy with those surroundings. Within a week and a half of the closing, I had color on every wall! It looks great, and each room now gives me a different feeling when I walk in. My kitchen is a fantastic green, my studio a calming ocre, and the guest bathroom a fun robin’s egg blue with brown accents. Of course, paintings adorn the walls – you might think you were in a gallery here.
With all of that said, it’s kind of interesting that I’ve lived here almost a year, but I’ve just now done something to beautify and add color to the outside of my home. I’m going to guess that the reason lies in the deep-rooted fear I have of killing things that start out green. Yes, I was the girl in college who had the cute little bamboo plant. I’ve heard they are one of the hardiest plants… very hard to kill. Well… yes, I killed it somehow. Next came an adorable little pot of miniature cacti. Now, as you know, cacti survive in the most bleak circumstances in the desert. Yet, I, Brown Thumb Kelly, managed to send these little guys to the Great Beyond. How do you kill a cactus? Give it to me.
So… Nate convinced me to give my flower bed a try. We spent the 4th of July weekend choosing, purchasing, and planting some beautiful flowers and plants for the bed. We tilled and dug and planted and mulched. I am thrilled with the results!
I’m faithfully watering them every morning, and praying that the soil is good enough for them to thrive. Now that my flower bed is beautiful, I couldn’t bear for it to be boring again

Kelly, I found your new (well, not sure how “new” it is) website and blog from Alicia Marbury’s blog and wanted to say “hi!” Boy, it’s been awhile! I have to tell you I am impressed with all you have created and accomplished. I am truly amazed! Your house is beautiful. I love the colors you chose for the walls, especially the green in the kitchen. Love the new flower bed, too.
Take care!
